K3E diesel engine, questions about timing the fuel pump

I have had the PFR fuel pump rebuilt, and the rebuild shop has misplaced the shim pack that was sent in with the pump... they have replaced the shim pack, but now I have questions about the timing marks im seeing on the crank pully....

I do have the manual, but it doesnt contain enough information to understand what marks to use, as there are various marks around the pully...

there are single marks, and a set of 3 marks close together, which I can only assume is the TDC mark... but I dont know this for a fact..
and then, after I positively locate the TDC mark, how does one tell where 23 degrees Btdc is located?... which is where the fuel pump times at....

is there anyone familier with these little mitsubishi engines that could offer some answers?..... thanks for any help you can give.

The TDC mark should be by itself, the three close marks shown in my book are 19/21/23 degrees BTDC which are to the RIGHT of the TDC mark for number one cylinder.

thanks for the information... and that would make sense in what im seeing.

#1 injector fuel flow stops just as the mark (that you indicate is TDC), rotates past the pointer about 2 degrees....

according to my book, being this far off, it should take about 2mm of shims to make it run properly, without the constant black smoke..

it starts a bit harder than it should, runs very sluggish and lacking about half of its power, and lots of black smoke when the engine has ANY little bit of load on on it.... im surprised it even starts with the timing being that far retarded....

after removing the pump and shimming it, it knocked the pump timing back a lot, in the wrong direction.....

to get the timing to advance, I need to remove shims, but there are no shims installed.... I have removed the pump and will have to send it back to the pump shop to find out whats going on with it... maybe wrong parts?... maybe my pump wasnt rebuilt, but gave me an exchange unit off the shelf... but its a problem.
