After doing a test fit with my hood I
noticed it looks like a strip of trim or
something was once there. I don't see
anything in the book. Any thoughts...

The parts catalog shows 5 each of R 28524 Bumper, flange in that area. Perhaps there was one of those bumpers in each of those five holes.

I never saw a trim piece there. If you see wear it is probably from the hood. If you loosen the bolts that hold the nose on there is probably enough play to tilt the nose and give a better fit. How is the fit between the nose and side rails? Room for improvement?

Wear at that spot from the hood is pretty normal on all new generation tractors but that gap is very large. It looks like the exhaust is centered in the hole and probably isnt moveable. What does the cover over the steering look like is there something stuck in the way? Never had a Deere crawler and I dont remember tractors having the little holes so someone else might know better but on green stuff that gap should be about half that size or less and you can see its been rubbing closer

There is supposed to be a woven welting similar to a lantern or oil lamp wick rivited there. Those fell off eons ago.

The whole time I was thinking it needs
bumpers. I totally missed that #28 in the
book. Thanks for pointing it out. The front
of the hood fits good to the dash. I'm
going to try to find some sort of rubber
trim to fill in the gap....
