Having problems adjusting steering clutch/brake on a jd 1010c. Basically everything in it is new. The machine is on blocks and the tracks removed. I have followed the service manual to a T. The problem is when it is in gear and the sprockets turning and you pull on the steering lever the corresponding sprocket with not stop turning until the steering handle is nearly all the way back. The steering control rod is backed out quite a bit in order to line up the clutch fingers with the throw-out bearing. The photo shows the position of everything right after an adjustment was made. Do you see anything off ? Would the sprockets stop sooner if the tracks were back on it ? Not enough drag ? Is it possible I missed something or got something backwards when reassembling the brake ban housing ?

All new discs (steel and friction) and pressure plates? Did you set the pressure plate fingers with the JD7 gauge? If you got aftermarket discs it is possible the thickness of the discs varies from the JD spec.

New components will likely need a bit of running to seat them in. Running it as you are, you have no load on the clutches. Having the tracks on the ground, driving the crawler, would put some drag on them which would make them slip as you pull the lever back. Right now, I expect just the drag is keeping things turning until you get the brake applied.

Sometimes it takes a couple rounds of adjustment as things get seated in, but actually having it on its feet and moving will be needed to confirm it is adjusted right. JMHO

Yes sir new aftermarket disc. And yes the
fiber were thicker. I ran them through a
plainer to get them back to spec. Bought
and used the clutch finger adjusting gauge.
Sometimes you just need to hear what you
think is the problem from someone else.
Thank you for your time
