New to the forum so I apologize if this is the wrong spot. I have the opportunity to pick up 1944 Td9 for $500. Undercarriage and tracks are about 75% but it we can t push it with another tractor withe transmission in neutral. I can move the crank with the fan blade about 2-3 degrees so I can t tell if the motor is frozen. The exhaust wasn t covered but it has about a 8" 90 degree bend that shouldn t let a lot of water in. Motor dipstick doesn t appear to have any water in it and all the tanks and radiator are dry. Has a large winch. No history. Just wondering what you folks thought

79 years with a lot of track experience. IF it has been setting for extended time good chance the
track chains are frozen or stuck so that is the reason you cannot pull it. 75 year old machine
will be nothing b ut a money pit. Take some dollar bills and walk out on the front porch throw
them in the air and watch them blow away, if you feel good then you go on and buy it . I know
this is an old tractor board and sure do not want to hurt your feeling but that thing when it was
new was not the greatest thing in the world. Steering clutches are more than likely stuck just so
many things to consider. The $ 500 is about scrap price here so I guess if you have a way to move
it you could sell out but sure not a great deal to me. Just my two cents worth.

x2 on the sticky tracks. I tried to push my small dozer with another machine while I was dismantling it & almost bent the frame. The tracks were too tight from weather change.

The brake bands are probably rusted to the brake drums. It only takes 1 band stuck before it wont move. Before you abandon the purchase, Pull the inspection covers from the rear of the steering clutch housing and see if you can slide the bands back and forth with a screw driver. If one or both are stuck, remove the pins from the brake pedals and push the brake rods to the rear as far as possible. Once the front of the band is free, you should be able to break the rear of the band loose with a large screwdriver, working through the inspection cover holes. If that machine really is 75% , it would be worth messing with if not too far from home. Another one that tight will be hard to find. You can part it out and get twice what you paid for it

Scrap price in Oregon, that cheep because if I didn t have my own trailer and winch it would cost $1000 to move it. I have always wanted one but don t need another project.

Take one more picture of the bearing blocks on the
front idler, where they slide on the frame. How
much frame is showing ahead of the blocks?

. Unfortunately the machine is an hour away and it will either have been sold or the estate accepts my $500 before I can go see it again.

ended up buying it. So far rear brakes ar free, gas has been cleaned and the carb is pulling gas but no spark. Have pulled the grounding wire and will be cleaning the points in the mag

So the motor does turn, then? That sure would
make it easier if you can get it started... even if you
cant steer it, place the trailer in such a way that you
can drive it straight on.

yes cranks over, a little slow because the engine clutch is frozen. Going to try to get that free if possible. Hoping to be able to remove the inspection cover and back the adjuster way back.

got the mag putting out a good hot spark, and able to get a puff every now and then trying to start on gas. I unfortunately am running very short on time with other higher priority projects at home and it was going to be too heavy for my trailer to haul. I ended up putting it on Facebook Marketplace and have a person that is very interested coming this Saturday. Very hard to come to this conclusion but I at least I got it going enough that someone is interested and hopefully it won t go to the recycle. Thanks everyone for their comments.

This thread makes me want to get back on my TD6 project. I had it running. Steering clutches are stuck. Main clutch and transmission work good. The starter went out and that is where I stopped.

I ended up selling after I photo it rolling and fixed a couple of other things, I am still looking though
