66-71 Case 580CK hi/lo trans operating question

So On my backhoe it has a 4 speed geared trans and a long lever on the right side as sitting on tractor for the 2 speed HI/LO range. Which direction is low range ....foward or back ?

I have a 1972 Case 480b backhoe loader with a 4 speed and hi/low shifter on mine low is forward and hi is back. Hope this helps.

thanks ..I dont know for sure as all I know is the 580 model ran from 66-71? and then 72- whatever ..Mine is a 4 speed so I hope that they did not change it ..I woulod hope so ..does yours have a mechanical shuttle clutch too?

I have a 1975 580b ck. Dry clutch, hi/lo like yours. Low is forward. Only the mechanical shuttle had the dual range. Won't climb much of a grade in hi. At least mine won't. Let the clutch out in low gear hi range and the front tires get air!

Mine does have a shuttle shift from forward to reverse. I have to disengage the clutch in order to shift from forward to reverse.
