Case 580B CK Shuttle

Cannot get this cover off of the shuttle.

About 10 years ago, while using the backhoe, the shuttle locked into forward and would not release. The transmission could still be shifted into all 4 gears and neutral and the range selector could be shifted between high and low and could drive the backhoe forward.

The problem I'm having is getting the cover off the shuttle box to see what the problem is. It is loose and moves freely but cannot lift it more than an inch or two. I cannot even pry it up any further. What could be catching, I cannot see in there.

Yep, that's my cover. And I too, have that big thick book like yours. But whatever broke inside that box must be what's keeping that cover from lifting off.

I may end up taking that cover off in pieces, if you know what I mean!

Thank you for replying and taking the time to look up the part.

Sorry it didn't help. Hope you figure it
out. Curious as to what could be holding
it. Bent shift fork maybe? I'd try not to
break the cover. Think a fork would be
easier to find.

This is a long distance left field assessment of your
situation. Not sure how dimensionally accurate the
small inset in Rsells reply is but it looks to me like the
fork in the upper left is the front fork. It looks to me
like if it is shifted forward that the top of the fork and
shift rod actually go to a forward position that would
make it catch under the front edge of the opening of
the gear case. So I am figuring what ever went wrong
has locked the shift collar forward and now the shift
fork cannot move back enough for the fork to pass by
the front edge of the case. After double checking
these facts I would recommend holding the cover up
and if possible torch off the fork fingers. Sounds like if
something is ..gone.. enough to lock up a shifter a
thorough cleaning will be needed anyway. Cannot
really see for sure but it looks mighty dry in that front
compartment. Would seem strange, by chance was it
supposed to fill with lube separate from the
transmission? If it is dry I would apply copious amounts
of Hagens brew and attempt to free up what may be a
serious rust ball.

Of what I can see in that box it does look dry in there.

That cover has to come off one way or another!

I am unable to move the fork in any direction either by the shift lever or under the cover with a long punch. Something is keeping that fork from moving. The cover is loose and I can move it around but cannot lift it off.

Thank you for your suggestion!
