My son and i are in the process of rehabilitating a 57 420c. We pulled the left hand track off to remove steering clutch
My son and I are working on a 57 jd 420c crawler. We removed track on the left hand side to work on clutch and brake
band. When we got it apart, brake band and clutch was covered in oil. I'm assuming it's leaking thru seal on inside of
bearing quill. This is my question, can I remove bearing quill without removing clutch housing? I've beat on quill with
a hammer, tried prying where i can, but no luck. It looks to me that quill is partial behind clutch housing. Please
help!! Thanks Greg

It's easier to take the rear cover off of the transmission, then you can tap on the quill from the inside. They are usually a little rusted in.
I have all the parts to fix on hand.

ripped into steering clutch tonight, took apart disk and sandblasted metal ones. There is some what i would consider minor rust pits in them after blasting! Are they reusable or do they need to be perfectly smooth? Thanks Greg
