So I have a Roosa Pump that is on my late 60s 188 Diesel 580 CK Backhoe/loader and just was rebuilt and I have been reading about putting it back on using the reference hole in the bell housing , and having # 1 cylinder at TDC and both valves with free play and also using the window on the pump for another reference ...also if you have the front timing gear housing off then using the marks on the drive shaft and gears for reference but WHY is there factory marks for timing on the Pump mounting flange at the top where it bolts to the engine? I do not see any pointer or reference mark there cast onto or into the matching block area? Maybe from the factory they were supposd to punck a mark when it was built ? or maybe the pump that I have on it is not original one and for a different case engine ? you can look down on the pump and see factory marks on the pump flange but nothing on block to reerence it to?
