I have a Case 580B 188D with a manual shuttle transmission. I
bought this in non running basket case condition. I got it running.
It has a new clutch, pressure plate & throw out bearing input shaft
seal and gasket. I went to drain the transmission to check for
water and add new oil. Their was a piece of conduit for a drain
plug that went all the way thru. So their was no oil in the
transmission. I put the proper drain plug in and filled it with 90W.
Started it up to try and move it. It was making some rattling noise.
When I depressed the clutch it stopped, let it out and makes noise
again when the input shaft turns. It did move in all gears, but
would make some strange noises at times. I took the cover off the
torque tube behind the bell housing. Theres no oil in there. My
question is is the supposed to be? Theirs no fill plug or drain plug
in that area. The bearings on the shaft are open roller bearings, I
would think they need to run in oil?
