Engine replacement

Have a case 1737 skid loader. Has been stuck back in corner of tool shed because of engine issues. Needs a re-build.
Grandson wants to resurrect it. I will gladly contribute. Are there any newer engine upgrades that anyone is familiar with
for this older machine. It is a 1970ish vintage. Thanks Don

Does this machine have the 37 horse Wisconsin? Does it just have a shaft that couples to a right angle gearbox? If so,you can couple up anything that you can fit in there.However,what you have to be aware of is that Wisconsin runs at 3600 RPM,and a lot of the little diesels run at 2100.You will crawl around the yard,and the hydraulics will be slow.I bought one in the mid 80's that the guy had put in a small diesel.Real neat installation,but an old woman could walk faster than that moved.I put a Wisconsin back in it,but I could never learn to run those hand flipper controls.
