Midgi Crawler

I recently acquired a 1950 Tobias Midgi Crawler and I am well into the deconstruct mode. After pulling the differential out I have found the bearing stub coming out of the right rear brake drum is sheared off from the ring gear housing. I see no way for a repair. Super limited information on these units. So I need some info on where this defunct company may have sourced parts for their units. I have heard the rearend is from Clark (forklifts ?) but it also looks a lot like the Oliver HG. Any help in searching in the right direction?

Got a photo?

There's numerous shops around the country that "retube" axle housings for hot rods or 4X4's of all sorts.

Not that yours would be a common one they make parts for everyday, obviously.

If you are willing to throw some money at it, I'll bet a shop like that, or a good nearby machine hop, for that matter, could repair your axle.

I can send you images of an early brochure that I found at the UC Davis Special Collections Library, but I don't know if you have an early or late model Midgi. Early ones have the Le Roi engine. I've also been trying to track down if IH bought the Tobias company, but have been unable to make any headway there. We're been talking about Midgi on Facebook the past couple of days. Look for our group: "antique small mini dozer crawlers and track machines.buy, sell." I would love to get an image of the data plate, if there is one. It might be me more research clues to pursue.

thanks, Duane
