Case 310 and Case 350

I have been looking for a small crawler loader to use around the farm and for other little projects. I found a Case 310 and Case 350 package deal just up the road from me. I just want some advice on what you guys think. I went and looked at them today, the 350 has the 188 diesel and had a brand new crate engine installed less than 1000 hrs ago, it runs like a dream, the only downfalls are it is in pretty rough shape and the u/c is completely shot, I've never seen one that bad. The other one is a gas 310, it has a fairly new u/c and is in decent shape overall, looks like it has pretty low hrs but it doesnt run the guy said it did but we couldnt get it to start. He said he'd take $4500 for the pair. I'm thinking either put the diesel in the 310 or pull the u/c from the 310 and put on the 350. What do you think? Is it a good deal? Thanks

Is the undercarriage identical? Sprockets and rails and number of links etc.? I doubt if the engine would be a direct swap. Dave

The owner who seems pretty knowledgable with case equipment says that everything will swap right in either one, he was planning on doing it himself but he's not got the time or ability to do heavy work anymore so he wants to sell them. The 350 looks alot rougher and all the cylinders leak so I was thinking just swap the engine into the 310 which is in very good shape. I just dont know if its worth all the trouble or just try to find a good one. Does it seem like a decent price? I will sell whichever one I dont end up using so I think its not too bad of a deal. He has to know soon or they are going to an auction. Thanks

A machine with a bad engine and undercarriage isn't worth much. I think someone should be able to help you more than I can. Dave

How valueable is your time? You have to put a value on that. You can put a dollar amount on it if you want to, when you are calculating a bargin.

I swapped out the u/c on my CASE. My time gets more valueable every day. However, I looked at it as a learning expense, and wasn't too concerned about the $'s. I had never done anything like this before and I was between jobs. My u/c wasn't totally shot. I did learn from the experience and know my machine much better now. I'd do it again, but rather not. I wouldn't get a machine w/a shot u/c. Not that the first one was, It was about 50%.

Also, you might have parts issues. My stuff was available from CA$E, but I bought aftermarket, (Korea). CASE (CHN) does maintain a parts webpage where you can select various parts and cross check part numbers. Thus seeing if they are interchangable.

There is a place here in Riverside, calif. called Experienced Tractor Parts that deals in CASE (primarly) new and used parts. their website is basically a telepone number. I did find Falcon Power in Pheniox, Az. VERY helpful! (you can search CHN there. They deal in new, used and aftermarket.

One more thing, check the distance BETWEEN the sprockets [for offset(called gauge)] its important when ordering the new or swapping out sprockets.

The engines will interchange no problems some like the 350 with coverter but for a limited use machine a clutch will be fine. The undercarrige is the same if it is a late 310 a late E series or a F or G EXCEPT the front idlers unless it is a real late 310G with hydrualic track tenisoners If you need any parts email me and i will send you my web site

I have a Case 310G crawler loader which I am changing all of the under carriage parts.
I think that it would be much easier to change the engine than do an undercarrage.

I am looking for a backhoe for my machine if anyone knows of one.

I have a 72' 350 dozer that i just last fall replaced the entire undercarriage on for around 3000.00. I did all the work myself and that helps but i now have a dozer that runs great and a brand new UC for a total including purchase for under 8500.00 i think 4500 for a good running dozer with a questionable uc is a good deal but if its totally shot then no, I would question if the conversion of the UC from the 310 to the 350 although the 310 became the 350 so its possible. I think i would try to get the 310 running well and sell it for 3000.00 and then buy a new uc for the 350...... on another note I am looking for a ROPS for my 350 crawler if anyone knows of one.

What is wrong with your injection pump? You can buy the seal kit inexpensively but If your'e not adventurous there is a guy on Heavy equipment forum that rebuilds them. I believe there is someone on this forum too that does it.

Do yourself a favor and start a new post of your own. Tell what you have for a machine, what the problem is, and what you are looking to get for help and information. Tagging onto old posts (12 years old in this case) is generally a hard way to get info, especially when the post may not be related to your problem, other than the brand and model of your unit.

If you are having injection pump troubles, there are a couple injection pump repair guys (Al "the pump guy" Baker and Diesel Tech) that frequent the forums. Many here have sent their pumps to them for repair. They are pump repair guys with experience to know the parts that are worn beyond acceptable limits and have the right equipment and tools to repair, test, and calibrate after repair.

You're replying to a 14 year old post and asking for a link to a business that hasn't existed for at least 10 years. I believe the guy that ran it died. You need to do as suggested and start a new thread
