Removing gear from hydraulic pump

I have been asked to help change hydraulic pump on small jcb digger, the only thing I am not sure about is removing nut that holds drive gear. The only way I can think of is to put screwdriver into pump to lock shaft as the pump is knackered so it
Does not matter but how do I lock shaft on new pump to tighten nut and what should it be tightened to and should I put thread lock on nut ??
It is 3 pumps joined together I am assuming one pump is for tracks one is for slew and the other is for digging action... thanks for all replies

What I usually do is hold the gear in a soft jaw vice, if you don't have that a couple of pieces of brass or copper between the gear and the jaws of of an ordinary vice will do, I don't know the torque for the nut, see what size the nut is and look it up in a torque chart, a smidgen of loctite will be ok.
