Bobcat 700 720 721 722 bucket cylinders

Hello, I've got an old Bobcat 700 series from the 1970's, mine has the Wisconsin engine so I believe that makes it a 720. I'd like to find a parts machine as one of my bucket cylinders has developed a leak at the base, small crack most likely. If anyone has one of these machines or parts to one I would be interested. Send me a PM or reply here. Thanks

Figure out where the leak is. If its the packings in the cylinder they are available and only $25.00 or so. If it's a crack, that can be repaired too.

Thanks Bret4207, its definitely a crack as its on the base end, not the rod end with the packings. I've repacked the RH cylinder when I
got the machine and will repack the LH cylinder should I repair the crack, which is most likely what I will do. I had cleaned the area and
ran the hydraulics and saw where the leak was coming from but its not in a really easy to see area on the machine. I read another forum
that had some ideas to find the crack. I pressurized with shop air and couldn't find it so I'll try those ideas. I'd like to put new pins
and bushings in also when I fix as they are very worn out. For a 1974 machine its done very well and still does good work!

If you find a parts machine it might be as bad as yours, just extend the rod, grind the crack and weld it up. A common repair on all kinds of equipment cylinders

That is a very common cylinder to find used,it is the same as on the old 500,600,610,etc.I ran one of those for 25 years or so.I only intended for it to be a garage machine, but I wound up working it all over the place.Dug foundation holes, septic systems, plowed the town sidewalks, just worked it to death. Then sold it for $1000.more than I paid for it.Mine was an M-700,it has the Wisconsin engine. It is a VERY well balanced machine. When the town transfer station rented mine to use while theirs was being fixed the guy there loved it,even though it was 40 years older than theirs.Somehow he managed to keep it for two more days after theirs was back.He had to load two paper and plastic recycling trailers, and he felt safer on the ramps with my old 700.I replaced it with a 753,and I still miss the 700 for garage use.If you are hooking up chains and such to move iron the 700 is a lot easier to jump in and out of.You spin and drop in.In the later machines you climb up,then clinb down in,then wiggle around to sit.You can use the modern quick tach attachments, but you do have to skinney them up 3 inches to do it.Up and down height is OK.

I have a Bobcat 720. I rebuilt the engine and got it running pretty well. Then I left a wrench under the lift cylinder and damaged the cylinder beyond repair. We have been looking for a replacement for weeks. Some of the guys I talked to said the only cylinder that will work is Bobcat part no. 6540229, which is the one on the 700, 720, 721, and 722.

I haven't had a chance to compare my cylinder to the ones on other machines. You mentioned it's the same as the one on a 500, 600, 610, and others. Have you switched them out before? Any idea how I could confirm which cylinders are interchangeable?

If anyone has a cylinder that might work, even if it needs a little reworking, I'm in the market.

Thank you Jim. I called about that one and the guy said he would look in the yard to see if it's still there but he didn't call me back. I
also found one at a scrap yard in Iowa for more money. I was hoping I could get some confirmation that the cylinders from other bobcat models
would work. Specs are not easy to come by for these machines.

It would be good to be able to widen my search for a scrap bobcat. If other model cylinders would fit I could probably find something closer
to me (Pittsburgh) and hopefully for less money. Plus I would be reluctant to buy something like that from a distant seller without seeing it
and checking the fit.

Keith, could you let me know how sure you are about whether the lift cylinder from a bobcat 500, 600, 610 is interchangeable with the bobcat 720?

I can tell you the bucket cylinders are the same because I have swapped them on mine.I had a 610 that was crashed,(fell off a
trailer at 50 MPH) with new bucket cylinders.I just changed them because they were 30 years newer than mine. The lift cylinders I
have no idea.I do know they take the same packing kits though.Even the little 371 (single cylinder machine)uses the same packing
kits in all it's cylinders.I'm not sure I still have the parts books for those machines or not to compare them.I had a fire 21
months ago and lost about 4000 pounds of books.A lot of the parts and shop manuals I wasn't actively using were in the cellar.
