1952 D6 9U Clutch rattle

My son just bought a 52 D6, the flywheel clutch was slipping so adjusted it and works as it should now, however we have noticed a rattle in the clutch when engaged. I'm not sure if something is wrong or if its normal. I am attaching a short video clip of the dozer under power and the clutch rattling. Does anyone know what happening, or is this normal, and we should just put the cover back on and put it to work.

It looks like something is running off kilter, get a strong light so you can see down into the compartment and turn the engine over a bit at a time so you can see the back of the pressure plate and anything that might be loose or broken, the throw out bearing could be worn, see what you find.

OK, thanks. I will dig into it later today and report back. Curious to know, if there is something that needs replacing, do you need to split the tractor, or can the clutch assembly come out the top after removing the top half of the bell housing.

As Hector says, no need to split the tractor. Get the manuals, Cat makes REALLY good manuals on these old girls.

I just got back from looking at the clutch, I can' find any pins or linkage that is missing or broken/bent. I did however notice something a bit strange, it appears one of the links is compressing the linkage more than the other 2, but not quite sure why, maybe throw out bearing is bad. I have attached a picture of each link. If anyone has any feedback it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help so far, this dozer runs quite well, so hoping to get this straightened out before it causes bigger problems.

I looked more carefully at the video again and realized it is the throw out yoke that jumping about, the pressure plate is running true as far as I can see, the links are bound to be worn but the are ok, I cannot remember how the throw out bearing was lubricated and seem to think it was drip feed but could be getting it mixed up with another model, look around for a way to lubricate the bearing, Hector will know if he see this.

There are 2 grease fittings, from what I understand you have to be careful not to over grease them, I did give them a couple of shots each before we adjusted the clutch.

Ya a shot in each, immediately behind the bearing is the universal joint coupling, try a few shots in that and see grease came out from under the four caps, possible for those joints to go stiff, yank the yoke about to see if it's got play.
Good luck

Pilot bearing in the driven plate, I'd remove the clutch assembly and inspect. If let go to long, it will oval out the race in the driven plate, the bearing needs an appropriate amount of grease every 8 hours of operation. This happens more than not from not greasing that fitting regularly. Get the books, especially serviceman's reference book.
