My master link bolts on my track broke out in the field and I dont know how to remove the female half of the link!Bolts are broken down in the block and I am having trouble drilling out in the field! My thought is to take off the female half of the link, take it to my shop sand drill press them out. What is the process to remove the pin holding the master link? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I take it you are talking about the alligator link on the SALT track, the way I removed broken bolts was weld something to them, heat the link (not the bolt) where the bolt is in and get it red hot and unscrew the broken bolt, you need an experienced heavy equipment welder to do this type work.

Split the link, weld something ie a smaller bolt to the broken piece, heat the link where the broken bolt screws into from the outside and gently try to unscrew it, if you are not experienced at doing this type of work get a welder that is.

PS, I cannot view your picture or video, might be the easiest for you to replace the link if the bolts can't be got out.

Okay, thanks for the reply! I am going to have to get the link off of the
track though, its out in the woods now! Can the track pin be driven
out with a sledgehammer? Again thanks AJ!very helpful advice

Yes the pin can be got out that way, a suitable drift close to the diameter of the pin weld a handle to it and have a second person to hold it while you get some exercise in on a 14Lb hammer, if you are going to replace the link you can cut two slots on the pin boss of the old link if you don't have a torch use a cutting disc on a grinder, keep close to the pin but don't damage it, it will be a lot easier to get it out then, do both sides, the pins are not meant to be taken out that's why the alligator link, not an easy job any way you do it, did the bolts come loose or did they break while you were trying to undo them.

They were broken off, three of them. The other one was stripped out.
We got the alligator link out by putting alot of heat to it on the outside
of the track and wedging cold chisels as we applied heat to it . Now
trying to drill out and tap old bolts out, not going too well. Can I reuse
the old pin after beating it off the link?It came off but had to use force
behind it. Im concerned that the pin wont stay put after reinstalling it
back the way it came out! Thanks again!

Yes clean up any burrs that it may have gotten, those pins don't usually come out but if you are worried heat the very end at the edge and give it a few blows of the hammer to blur it over a smidgen.
AJ

You aren't going to drive those out
with a hammer, the reason the
alligator link is there is because it
takes about a 150 ton press to remove
the pins
