Caterpillar 933 Track Loader Serial Number and Tracks

I just bought a mid 1960 Caterpillar 933 Tracker Loader to clear 116 acres of rec land I bought. I have never owned anything bigger than an old melrose bobcat. Unreal how quickly and well the engine starts and runs in this thing. I got it for $4k because the right drive sprocket slips on the tracks under heavy load.

1. Where is the serial number on this so I can try to hunt down parts?

2. Whats a good source for parts?

3. Short of rebuilding the undercarriage and it possibly being impossible if I can find parts, can I repair the tracks by welding on them? My thoughts were to take a piece of pipe, cut it in half, overlay it on the worn track section and welding it on. Do I need hardened steel or will mild work?
 
Mild steel is no good and welding anything to the bushes or links won't hold as the steel is very hard, you need a replacement chain and a new sprocket rim, the serial # should be on the bevel housing casing but if there is a counter weight fitted you won't be able to see it, look on the firewall above the right brake pedal, try Crawler Haven or Broken Tractor for parts, the machine you have if it has a turbo it's a 933G, no turbo but has reverser 933F, no reverser 933A

At the Left rear of the machine,there should be an ID plate ...I can't quite remember the exact location.
There were E,F,G models .I think the G had a Turbo.
Some years ago,I got lots of great info from ACMOC.
 
is it the sprocket teeth or the track bushings that are worn? Have you adjusted all the slack out of the track?
 
Start with adjusting the track. Then look for climbing on the sprocket. climbing means the track will ride up the sprocket teeth. The sprocket can be welded up with a shaft the size of the track pin for a gauge. Will take lots of hard surfacing rod, and I would start with something softer than hard surfacing rod.
