1956 933 Cat fuel leak

My old Caterpillar has been sitting in the shed for over a year
without being messed with. My son and I went out last
weekend to get it fired up. While checking all of the liquids we
noticed that the fuel tank was completely dry. It didnt have a
full tank but it wasnt empty when parked either. We fueled it
up and got it running. After a while of my boy moving some
rock around I noticed it leaking something under the engine.
It was diesel fuel. Its never leaked fuel before... Any ideas?
I have done some reading but havent taken the engine
shrouds off to investigate. Any help is much appreciated!

Sorry I can't point you right to the problem. It could be a cracked or rusted fuel line leaking, a seal leaking, filter or sediment bowl rusted through, etc.. To me that is one of those problems you will need to open it up and look for, we can all guess at what/where it might be and not be right. Actual hands, and eyes, on the machine is needed to find the leak, then depending what and where it is; someone may have an idea for a fix if it isn't just a line, hose, bowl, or fitting repair.

Thank you Jim,
I just thought Id throw it out there and see if there were any
known problems that could cause this. Ill try to dig into it this
weekend. I appreciate it!

I would suspect a leaking line. If in freezing climate water froze in the filter house causing it to leak.

The most thing to be concerned about is where it leaked to, it was a common problem to have the transfer pump leak into the engine so check the engine oil is not gone high, the other place it could leak is out of the bleeder if the wheel valve is loose, and like said the sediment bowl, fuel line, o'rings between the injector pump and fuel tower, if the oil is not rising then the leak is external and will need to be found.

an external leak should be easy to find , be careful the leak is not near exhaust
