D3C engine swap?

Hi folks, got a random question for yall.
A couple buildings down from where I work
is a scrap yard/junk pile and there is a
cat d3c sitting out front. It's been there
for at least a decade, no engine in it. I
haven't checked it out yet, but was
wondering if it would be feasible to put a
different engine in it? I think it's
supposed to have a 3046 engine in it, but I
would be happy with a gasser (it's only 78
HP)

Any opinions and advice is appreciated.

I'm not really even sure the guy would sell
it, he seems to collect stuff more than buy
and sell. I've been driving past the place
for 6 years now and nothing seems to move
much lol

Should be a 3204 engine, why not ask the owner where is it's own engine it might repairable, one can fit any engine with time and money, probably easier to get a Cat engine that could be dropped straight in without having to change lot of things, someone might have put in a gasser but I doubt it, I would try to find out more about the machine as the engine could be out for some other reason or maybe in a repair shop etc, owner passed etc ??.

Thanks AJ, ya that makes sense.
I've been meaning to stop in one of these
days (for the last 6 years.... lol)
What do nonrunning machines tend to go for?
I'm guessing a touch over scrap weight
value? I know, no details on the machine,
no one can say for sure. I'm not looking
for a ballpark number, just what game are
we playing? Haha

A non running D3C could be worth quite a bit more than scrap, if it has good components that could be parted out and sold.

At this point, this is just a game with no end or answers. Sorry but until you: 1. Stop and ask if it is even for sale., 2. If it is, get details of year, transmission, just what is wrong and condition of all the components, including undercarriage (of course photos might help at that point)., and 3. If it is for sale, does the owner have an asking price. JMHO

You are talking about something that weighs a little over 17,000 pounds so just in scrap value it has pretty decent value. As said it is probably worth more as parts than scrap. Very handy size dozer. Good luck with it
