1966 530ck Backhoe control valves leak bad

I bought this hoe for $500. It has the case-omatic with high/low and the 4 speed. Poor thing has been abused with welds EVERYWHERE! It runs great and the trans has tons of pushing power. The brakes even work. The top of the right loader tank is busted right off though. That is a story for another day.

The backhoe control valves are leaking bad around the spool valves.

The PO decided welding the backhoe mounts solid was a good idea so little chance to get it off for more working room. What are the chances of getting the spools out the bottom with the valve in place?

TIA

I cannot answer that question but if I was where you are I would measure the height of the spool and see if you had that amount of space under the valve, the valve will come up if you remove the centring spring and washers from the bottom, take off the cap, hold the top and undo the bolt at the bottom, take off the spring and cup washers and the valve will pull up, there is an o'ring at the bottom as well as at the top to catch the leak getting past the spool, replace both.
Good luck

Thank you AJ, That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

I haven't worked on any spool valves before but, just about everything else at some point.

Fair enough, a few tips, clean the dirt off before you open anything, if the cap is held on with two bolts loosen the two bolts evenly as the cap is spring loaded in case a lug would break off, keep everything clean the tools and your hands, get the o'rings from Case if you can, if you don't have a parts book there is an online parts catalogue at the link below, the 530 should have a 32 backhoe, the machine looks very presentable.

I have started by pressure washing the whole machine.

I need to get back into the backhoe valve area again to get it clean enough for the upcoming surgery though :D

It looks better in the picture than up close. It does however function fine with plenty of digging power.

The welds everywhere though...

WOW! I thought mine was bad, but you got me beat. Sometimes it's a good idea to shape a new piece to fit rather than add more weld on top of weld.

As far as the valve body, it will serve you best to figure a way to cut the welds now. You'll likely have to to it sooner of later. A little pain now often avoids a lot later!

Ideally, I would like to be able to remove the backhoe but.. I would have to replace the lower axle mounts as well as spend most likely hours grinding the welds and then, re making the mounting points on the hoe frame..... Or, I fix the leaks and use it. Decisions....
I will get some pictures when/ if it stops raining/snowing again

I was given a pair of hydraulic tanks from a model#33 loader. The right tower does have a crack on it already. so, I am trying to decide whether to cut the top off the old model #32 and remake it or to put on the #33 tanks.

So many things to fix.

The wiring........ Right now that's not even hooked up as it is a MESS. At least it has an alternator on it.
