Hi All

I am just beginning a few restorations of some crawler tractors of my family and am looking for help and advise for new tracks
In particular I have a Caterpillar D4 7U model Serial 7u32285. We have completed the engine rebuild and are now moving onto the tracks. Unfortunately I can find no information on what size would be comparable for the D4 7U model. I have seen plenty of D4H or other model track chain. Does anyone know what model track and chains etc will fit this model?

Next on the list will be a UK Field Marshall and if things go well a Cat D8 that came from Pacific Islands

I'm in New Zealand so a bit out of the way. :)

I am going figure you have already measured the track pin length to compare for pitch on the rails. I would chat with a Cat dealer about what pitches would work. On Dad's D-4 back in the 70's the Current tracks would fit his 4G8 model which is about 10-15 years older than yours is. That was as of the 70's. Looking at some of the aftermarket tracks might yield some results also. Been a long time since I messed with any of these old Cats. IF you need to replace the sprockets you might be able to get sprockets with the removable tire or teeth this might also give you some more options with newer tracks,or different tracks to fit. As long as the rail width is the same the pitch would just need to fit your teeth on the sprocket the reason for mentioning the changeable rims/teeth.

You'll want to talk to the guys on this forum. Lots of Kiwis there IIRC. Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club https://www.acmoc.org/bb/

For my father-in-laws D47U I think the track shop said they were the same as a John deere 450. Someone over at Acmoc would know for sure...

Your 7U uses 6.75" pitch track with 2" diameter bushings.Still available, how many sections/links does your machine require?

Jeeze magnet, I just responded to you on ACMOC! This is the post I was talking about.

For Jcrowl- JD450 tracks aren't the same.
