Case 580D schuttle replacing

How hard is it to remove and replace the shuttle transmission on a 580 D backhoe. Mine is getting weaker and weaker. Changed oil and no difference. Done with tiling till spring so
thought we could work on it this winter. Tractor is in very good shape other than that Got a heated shop, so we'll try and work on it. Closest case construction shop is 125 miles
away, and agriculture shop don't want to work on it.

i have a 580E. the shuttle id bolted on engine like a normal transmission. pretty straight forward to remove. i used a transmission jack. if were 20 years younger i'd probably not bothered with the jack. shuttle is fairly heavy, but manageable. use your outriggers and something under the bucket to get machine high enough to get jack with shuttle out from under it. few hoses, few electrical connections and a driveline is all there is. good luck. if you're going to all the trouble to rebuild it, replace the torque converter as well.

I removed the shuttle shift on my 580D, installed a rebuild kit and put it back in. Rather straight forward to remove and replace. With the manual as a guide, installing the rebuild kit was not bad. The clutches were worn out and the selector shaft was seriously damaged from previous work. That was about 10 years ago and has worked well since.
