How interchangeable are the 5.9 cummins and 6.354 perkins?
I have access to a d53 komatsu that has been repowered with a 5.9 cummins.

The cummins got pretty worn and the dozer was parked. Now the engine is stuck

I have a good 354 perkins. They are both non turbo and about the same horsepower.
I can handle welding on the motor mounts and getting the engine set in the dozer.
My question is how much if any will the bellhousing interchange.
Will i need to locate a bellhousing for the perkins.
Thanks

Im sure others will know for sure but many guys put cummins motors in oliver tractors. Im almost sure they use a bellhousing from the olivers that had the perkins because the perkins and cummins will take the same bellhousing. Im sure the flywheels would be different though.

You cannot swap the engines till you take the one that's in there out and then you can measure up the bellhousing, Cummins engines were fitted as standard to lots of Komatsu models, Cummins like Perkings made nothing else but engines and both can be found in various machines all over the world, bellhousings come in SAE sizes, see the table in the picture.

I know you have the perkins but why change? I have a d53 that was repowered by a cummins out of an old dodge pickup over 10 years ago. Motors are easy to come by on Craigslist or Marketplace. Parts are also easy to find. I love mine and have had no problems with it although it doesn't get used a lot. Something to think about before you go changing a lot of things.

You may be correct that the best thing to do is pull the cummnins and fix it or look for another all together.
If you dont mind I would love to talk to you about the dozer you have thats been converted. Would you email me off site or send me your email and I will email you
Thanks

A type TWO BELL HOUSING IS WHAT IS NEEDED for the oliver to cummins swap as the two and three speed will bolt onto it with no changes , Next ya need the flywheel used in the late White tractors that used the Cummins . I did a Cummins 8.3 swap into a 2150 and due to the drive shaft for the ft. axle there was some mods to the Oil pan to be made and the pick up tube , a relocation of the fan hub one special hose and engine mounts it was almost a total drop in and setting at 225 Hp sure woke that tractor up.
