wondering if its a 555 of a 555a, tag shows 555-A ,, seem to have some trouble with parts, serial number 214649. ty

Does it read: 555 space A space 214649 T? If there is a space between the 555 and the A , the A stands for loader. Or does it read: TO 555A X 214649, with CRAWLER LOADER on a line below that? No space between the 555 and the A identifies a 555A series. Can you post a picture of your serial number or product identification tag, which ever it has?

According to the parts catalogs, the 555 was built 1974 to 1983 and the 555A was built 1983 to 1985. The jdcrawlers site has serial numbers listed for the 555 starting in 1976 with serial number 238320 to 261195, nothing for the 1974 and 1975 years. 214649 is prior to 238320 so I would say yours is a 1974 or 1975. It may be a 1974 as your number falls in the number group for the 1974 450Cs, just a guess on that based on the numbers.

It looks like for the 1983 555 machines, where the first of the 555As would fall, the serial numbers started with 383415 so your number is well below that which to me rules out it being a 555A. This is based on the info I find.

555 - A doesn't say crawler loader. so likely is that old. says 555 on the stickers, has pedal steering and a decelerator

Many had pedal steering and decelerators. Pedal steer frees up the hands to shift the transmission and operate loader, which reduces cycle time when loading.
