Caterpillar Twenty Two

A while back I made a couple of posts on this forum about acquiring a 1936 Caterpillar Model Twenty Two. The machine has been moved to its new home and I am now able to dig into it deeper. I intend on restoring it to factory original condition and that has lead me to a big decision, what do I do with the homebrew hydraulics that were put on it? I have linked some photos of the hydraulic bucket and pump assembly. I think the whole system is homebrew however, I have a friend that says the system looks like a kit. All of the hoses are shot and the hydraulic cylinders may need replacing, I am seriously considering selling the hydraulic pump, control valve, cylinders, and bucket just so I have a few extra bucks to put back into the machine. Any information regarding kits for such systems is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Austin

Back in the day if I remember correctly... caterpillar mostly only built the tractor, allied companies built equipment to fit. So any attachment would be an add on or kit. Common allied companies were Letourneau and Laplant Choat.

I currently have two of those in my yard. One of those having a blade and a winch. The other is just a bare crawler. The blades I have seen on any '22 are fabbed onto the machine as was the winch. I currently also have a '77 D4D with the 6 way blade, winch and glow plug start.
One of these days the '22's need to go away. One is decent undercarriage, the other not so much, one engine turns over, the other not.

That's what I figured, the blade is not original, but added after. Thanks for the info. I think I am just going to strip it down to a bare crawler again. The engine in this runs, and the undercarriage is in decent shape making it a great restoration project for me.

I had an R2 with an add on blade--its very similiar to the 22. The problem of adding a blade to an ag tractor is they did not have the oversize idlers to compensate for the blade weight. They rock and roll a lot---I had to add rear counterweight to help stabilize it
