Thanks for the add, this old girl was born the same year that I was!

I was hoping to get some advice on how to loosen the clutch plates for the tracks so that I can steer her again. Over the winter they must have rusted some and now they will not release so that I can disengage one or the other of the tracks to steer her. I have taken the plates off under the clutches and cleaned it out, sprayed it down with lubricant and even gave a couple of taps with a hammer. Next I was planning on sealing them off and filling the cavity with kerosene for a week to see if that loosens things up. Any feedback would be welcome, thanks again.

Rusting may have stuck them, but soaking dry clutches in petroleum products is also a good way to ruin them as well. It might work for a while after or it may slip right away from the contamination (like an engine clutch with oil on it). JMHO from working on different crawlers' steering.

Get it out where you can operate it. Hold the clutch levers released and alternately jab the brakes while moving. You can also try bumping into something like a big stump while holding the levers back to disengage the clutches. Some times the clutches will break free from the jarring.

Try riding the brakes to heat the
drums. You may need to tighten the
adjustment to get more travel. Re
adjust once free.
