JD 350 6-way blade valve

The spool that controls tilt travels downward easily, but not upward. This is new, within the last year. Oil is clean, all other functions work.

Stray cylinder packing fragment jamming the valve? I have applied moderate force to the control handle. I don't use the crawler much, any possibility the problem will resolve with use?

Thanks,
Zeke B.

Try something I've found over the years... Try turning the valve spool 180 degrees and see if it works better.. Take the linkage off the top of the spool , turn the spool 1/2 turn and hook it back up.. Don't ask how it works , just magic or something...

I thought that was a great idea. I took my tools out to the dozer thinking it would be a pretty quick fix, and found the tilt spool linkage hemmed in by a jumble of cast arms held together by rusty mushroomed roll pins. The joystick has always worked well despite what a worn old contraption it is, and I was afraid of breaking something if I attempted to dismantle the linkage.

This morning I asked my partner to take a look at the valve. She knows little about hydraulics, so I started the session by having her look at a simple valve and linkage on another machine, showing her what a spool was, and how it was actuated. Then we moved on to the 350 and its wonderfully wacky 6-way linkage. Long story short, she found that there is a small sweet spot where the joystick will still work properly. The spool is fine. I will learn to live with this half-fast state of affairs.

Thanks, Roy, I have no doubt that the 180 degree turn trick will serve me well in the future.
