Hitachi/furukawa d45 new steering clutches now won''t turn.

I replaced the right side steering clutches and now it won't disengage on the right side. Adjusted the linkage and made sure the fork is pushing against the clutch pack. Could it be the new clutches need to break in or possibly air in the piston or did I do something dumb and messed it up. Any suggestions?
 
I'm not going to give you a good answer, as to your problem. I will admit to never working on one of these,but will mention a couple things since no one has responded.

First I don't know that I ever heard of needing a break in period for steering clutches. Yes, the clutch and brake system may need an adjustment after they run for a bit and things settle in, but if correct they will work from the start.

Do you have the service manual for this machine or are you winging it? A service manual should have some trouble shooting info in it.

Does it have a throw out bearing? You say the "fork is pushing against the clutch pack". When you operate the steering can you see the pressure plate fingers move? If the new clutch discs are too thick there may not be travel enough to let it release. If the piston is for hydraulic or hydraulic assist steering you should be able to see if the piston is moving. Do you have the proper pressure to the piston?

I did get it to start turning yesterday after tightening the brake linkage some more. The new clutches could possibly be to thick since they are aftermarket. So far so good.
 
Always adjust the clutches first,adjust the clutches start up and put the machine in drive disengage both clutches the machine should stop and not be dragging,if ok, then adjust the brakes to spec,it is wise to measure the clutch pack height before installing.
