International TD236 and TD239 Engine Info Needed

I was wondering if someone could assist me. My friend has a D7 dozer and wants to know the difference between a TD236 and a TD239. He was wondering if he could swap the different engine into the dozer or are they too different? The original engine blew a hole in the side of the block.

I assume you mean a TD7 IH. If it is a TD7E. it would have a D239 IH German 4 cylinder engine. An IH D236 is a totally different engine, a US made 6 cylinder engine.

The 6 cylinder will not fit. Holed blocks are a common problem with that engine. The "G" series of those crawlers have 4BT Cummins engines, I think there was a kit available at one time for an engine swap to the Cummins for the older models.

NO the engines you mentioned are not even close as the other poster have mentioned. The d239 has a
lower engine balance driven by a ring gear on the crankshaft. Very programmatic if one ever lets
the engine get low of oil. Should be some junkers out there to get enough parts to fix his engine. I
have done several of the conversions to the cummins 4bt. Not something easy to do and costly . One
can find a late G series tractor and rob the parts . Little dozer is probably not worth the expense.
