Case 580 SL series 2 looses fuel prime

Backhoe started losing fuel prime. Changed fuel hose and replaced inline filter & tightened clamps.Now it cranks if used daily
but not if it sits 4 days.A crane mechanic says bad check valve in
fuel pump. Anyone know how you check this?? This is a 900 hr.
machine. Thanks in advance Bill

The vent for the fuel tank is remote and can get blocked causing a vacuum in the tank,look at the top of the tank,on top of the fuel gauge sender unit there are three pipes,one is the breather,find the end and see the breather is clean,to test the feed pump I usually disconnect the two fuel lines,using a length of soft rubber hose hold one end against the outlet from the pump and the other end in your mouth see if you can blow back through it,if you can it is leaking back,one of the valves is held open,try blowing through it by putting the blow hose to the inlet and see how you fare.
