450 C tracks turning cost

(quoted from post at 21:16:20 02/06/20) What is the average price for turning the pins and bushings in a set pf tracks?

This is going to be about the same answer as the ones you got last summer when you were asking about this. I don't have one price much less an average. The ones I've heard of are getting new chains as they could not find anyone to turn them or if they did it cost close to as much, or more, than some of the cheaper aftermarket ones. I doubt you are going to haul or ship you chains a thousand miles if someone you tells of a cheap price in their area. Reality is, your best bet is to check with your local JD construction dealer and see if they do it, or know a shop that does, and get their price and any others in your area. That will be meaningful pricing for you. Have your chains professionally measured up to see if they have enough life left in them to make it worth turning them, there are specs they go by. Check salvage yards, you might find a good used set. There are sellers on eBay showing new dry chains for $995 or best offer plus $145 shipping. You can buy bolts and reuse your pads. Your local dealer may have similar options if you ask. There are options out there, pretty easy to do some web searching and make some phone calls. If you give your general location someone provide the name(s) of places you might check. Sorry to sound harsh but I think you are at the point you need to see what is in your area and make your decision on what you want to do and move forward with it. JMHO

At my place we considered turning pins and bushes on anything smaller than a D6 size machine a waste of money, you would buy one new chain for the cost of turning the pins and bushings on both the old tracks,my two cents worth.

Jim in ME has your answer, can,t afford to turn the P&B in something that small , just buy new
rails. I had a large tracks service back int the 70s & 80s with the advent of sealed and lubed rails
and low cost of import UC turning P&B is just about a thing of the past. Sold my two presses and the
guy that bought them has since closed up shop.

if you have the time & health you can do it with a sledge hammer & drivers. Not impossible but not easy.

Buy New Rails swap your pads if decent, or buy complete tracks.

Is there anyone still turning pins?

I know of nobody in or around St Louis that does it anymore.

Tom

Usually around the same cost as a new set
of aftermarket rails....and you get new
rails instead of a set that's half worn
out.
