have 926e wheel loader with 3204 engine. went to start it, ran with a miss smoked extremely black would not increase rpms. cold weather thought maybe fuel jelled. got fuel flow and with it running and still black smoke cracked fuel lines and front two cylinders firing and back two not. do not know if it is injector pump causing black smoke or something mechanical causing miss. anyone run across this problem? thanks in advance. roh

Black smoke is usually lack of air, check the air intake system, the filter may have got wet and is blocked.

I should have mentioned that I pulled the intake air hose off of the turbo thinking that it may be stuck. when the engine would run the turbo was spinning so I didn't think that was causing it to not get sufficient air. someone suggested to pull the valve cover off and check for bent push rods. maybe but didn't think that would cause the black smoke I am getting. is there anything in the injector pump that would cause this problem. thanks for replying to the earlier post AJ.

Be careful with the turbo,it can suck things in that will damage it,is the intake side dry of oil,the engine is not overfilled, was this running ok when shut down or did it happen while you were using it,is the fuel and filters clean.

Could there be a hydraulic lever stuck or held in place to put an undue strain on the engine , causing black stacking ? Look for the easy stuff first....

after talking to the operator he said he started it and let it run to warm up for an extended period of time. ran ok then started to act up, power and then no power. was pretty cold when he left it idle. I need to check the primary fuel filter as it is a screen and see if it is plugged. when cracked fuel lines to injector seemed to have quite a bit of air on the two missing cylinders. will keep trying to eliminate things as I go. appreciate the suggestions.roh

Two missing cylinders!,remove the injector lines from the injectors, put the throttle in the stop position, crank the engine over while you watch the injectors,if a nozzle is stuck open compression will blow out from it,protect your face,if you get blow back that would account for the air,the miss and smoke, you will need a new set of nozzles.
