y book indicates the left cylinder to be #1 . As for the C&C marks, I do not know what they are , my book says to use the " A " on the gear lined up with the line on the contact point plate . Open the drain on #1 cylinder and roll the flywheel mark up to the mark on the cover, their should be a rush o fair out the drain as the marks line up . That should be 25 degrees BTDC , then insert the mag . That's my interpretation of the process from the book. You can go to " Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club, https://www.acmoc.org ", and ask their for conformation of the timing. Hope this helps ..

You bought it recently? Down around the back side of. . . King City? I believe, as your sitting on the tractor, the forward cylinder is on
the right side. Don't hold me to that. You can look at the pony motor and determine which cylinder is further forward.
You might also get to pull the plug and roll it around until you get compression. I believe the rotor also is able to be moved into all sorts
of positions on the shaft.

You really want to get the operators manual. Readily available on Ebay and elsewhere for not much money.

I should have mentioned, If that is the dozer I am thinking of, I went out and looked at it. Intermittent weak spark on the hard to pull pony motor? You could do an electric start conversion on it if you desire.
