Does anyone know of a circuit breaker in the electrical system of a 555B? I bought the machine last summer, and thought I had a bad ignition switch because I can only start the machine with a "hot" trigger that I got from NAPA, basically a short trigger button that you attach to the starter with alligator clips. When I turn the key, it sounds like the power does go to the starter, but only for a sec to try turn it over; it will crank over for a bit, but then nothing! Everything dies: lights, dash lights, etc. Eventually, the power is restored, but then it starts all over again. I checked all of the fuses below the steering wheel, but they are all OK. Would the voltage regulator of the machine, which I believe is over-head in the cab, control the power draw?? Anyone have any experience with this wort of thing?

I am a believer in having the manuals for my equipment so I would suggest investing in the service and operator's manuals for your machine. (Most parts books are available on line now so you don't need to purchase those unless you want a hard copy.) OEM is the best to start with I believe and there are a number of them available on eBay as one source. I don't see a 555D service manual listed in the store of this site. The service manual for the 555D appears to have 11 sections to it, so be sure any manual you look at purchasing is complete. Section 3 is electrical which I would expect to have the info you need to correctly trouble shoot it.

You can always work backwards from the terminal on the starter by chasing the wire connected to it back to find the point of failure with a tester (test light or meter). I may have missed it but I didn't see a circuit breaker in the parts book when I took a quick look. I have seen a fuse terminal strip feed connection, with corrosion, act like you describe.

I had an electrical issue on my 655A drive me nuts for the better part of a day. Between having the wiring diagram to look at, and calling the local dealer, I was finally successful.

So, I agree with Jim, help yourself by gathering all the information you can.

The voltage regulator on my 655A is in the battery box.

Seems I have seen circuit breakers mounted right on a switch. I don't remember if that's the case with this machine or not.

It shows, the electrical wiring diagram, having a circuit breaker mounted on the light switch, and also, 2 diodes close to the battery box, but they seem integrated in the wiring harness.. I have the manuals...

So come on now guys, help me out a little; all I am asking is to find out if the voltage regulator controls power in the manner that I am seeing, which seems to be like a circuit breaker. Let me know. Thanks to all. J.

I don't have the electrical schematic to look at, but I doubt the voltage regulator controls the voltage other than related to the alternator. I think you have a bad connection somewhere which drops out went it gets the load of the start circuit. Head light switches often have fuses or circuit breakers on them for the light circuits.
