Ford 713 BH Crowd cylinder replacement in dipper frame

Hi all I have sent an email to Andy Wickiser re:; replacing the crowd as I noticed in the archives that he did also, and just in case Andy is not able to reply I wonder if any one out there in YT land has done the same. The BH is a '62 Ford 713 model/12'. My concern is the precise alignment of the truion block at the lower end given the very limited working space to turn the block (if it can be at all) when the rod is retracted. It seems that Nothing would stop the rod and block from turning just slightly enough to prevent the block from entering the pin attachments once the hydraulics are actuated. The book does not mention anything about this (maybe a problem) it just says to attach the upper end and pin with the lock bolt and nut, retract the rod and using a drift bar align the lower holes for the block and pin and secure ! Any help is allways appreciated, thx

I'm not sure my email reply went through so:

To the best of my recollection I installed the crowd cylinder the way the service manual says (except I didn't use a hoist, just manhandled the cylinder). Lining up the trunnion block wasn't too much of a problem if the hydraulics are live for extension/retraction, and you have a good sturdy drift pin on one side to catch the hole and align while putting in the anchor pin from the other side. I think you can somewhat put your hand up there to gauge the position or perhaps twist the trunion horizontal if needed (be careful). Good luck!
