D6C 10K Leaky How soon should I address this?

This machine works great, except for the winch, but will address that in another thread. There is oily dust at the bottom outside of the left final. This is a machine I will probably not use more than 100 hours in the next year. 200 at the most. Mostly light road work and skidding a load or 2 of logs. If I keep the fluids full is this something that could be put off until if and when it will get more use? Or is this something that should be addressed soon?

Check there is no wire or the like wrapped around the inside of the sprocket, check the sprocket for play, use a 6ft pry bar between the frame and the sprocket and check for any play, the sprocket hub bearings can be adjusted should you feel any play,it would be a good idea now to drain the oil from that side and examine it for metal,if there is no metal fill it again and work away but keep a close eye on it and establish how much it loses and keep it topped up,if the hub seals are shot it requires the track frame and the sprocket to be removed, the sprocket requires a special puller and know how,ie it's got to be pulled off and pressed on.

C & D series are well regarded tractors. Remember that if the finals leak, they can also take on fluid, say from a working in wet muddy or standing water conditions. I agree with what AJ said, hopefully just seals, just these are some work to get apart to re-seal, but well worth doing for one of these.
