Cav rotary pump removal/MF470 WHEEL LOADER

I was told not to remove the pump from my
old as dirt MF 470 Wheel loader w/perkins
diesel because the removal might alter the
timing of the pump. I've had a mobile
mechanic (who has since passed) install a
rebuild kit with the pump in place. I am
not entirely sure what is involved with
that so my question is Can I remove this
pump to take it in for rebuild? Or should I
order a kit like he did and attempt to
install everything in place?

That pump is easy to remove/replace, just make sure the pump flange scribe line is with the scribe line on the timing case, or mark where it is now. There are three bolts to remove from the pump drive gear, and a gear pin that locates into the pump drive hub for correct timing of gear to hub. I just repaired a similar Perkins CAV DPA pump from a JCB backhoe for leak trouble.

As a matter of interest why do you think you need to remove the pump,It looks nice and dry in the picture ?.
