I have removed this ---BACKHOE---off this tractor. Except for the hoses. There are two 1 1/4 hoses and a two inch hose going back to the hoe part from the tractor. 3 hoses total. Thinking the 2 inch hose is a return line--my guess. THE QUESTION---How do I hook up the hoses so that the front loader and power steering still work. Thanks for any help....
 
Maybe someone with one hooked up like yours will answer, but I think more info is needed. Just saying you have 3 hoses doesn't tell much. We can't see any of the plumbing you have, so could only guess where those hoses go or come from. I too would guess the 2 inch hose is a return, but would follow it back to confirm that. So where do each of the three hoses come from/run to? Maybe the supply went to the hoe, then to the loader. Was there a diverter valve on the hoe? How is the loader valve plumbed for supply and return? Where were the three hoses connected on the hoe end? Where do the three hoses connect on their other ends? Chase the three backhoe hoses back to their source/end. Find the loader valve ports for supply and return, chase the hoses hooked to those two ports back to their ends. Does the loader valve have a relief valve? With that info it may be easier to help you.

Jim.ME I have some more information on this hoe.Sitting on the tractor with the front mounted Pump.There are TWO lines coming out of the pump--ONE goes back to the block with the backhoe controls. The other line comes back and crosses over to the front bucket control. ANOTHER line comes out of the backhoe control and goes into the front bucket control box. THE RETURN line comes out on the right side of the front mounted pump and goes back and tees into the front loader bucket control box and also continues back to the control box for the Backhoe.
I am trying to unhook the backhoe from the tractor and continue to use the FRONT BUCKET.
 
First, I am not familiar with your set up and hopefully someone who has one will have some advice.

Is this a multiple section pump? If I am understanding right your pump has 3 lines hooked to it. One you call return, then on the opposite side one to the backhoe control box, and one to the loader control box. Are the two to the control boxes hooked to separate ports or Tee'd together? Where is the reservoir for the system? You refer to control boxes. Are the valves enclosed inside sealed boxes or just inside/behind sheet metal enclosures?

A pump needs an oil supply (suction port). That would normally come from a reservoir, possibly through a suction screen or filter. You don't mention such. I have to guess the line you are calling the return may be the supply (suction). Is it the largest one? Some use low pressure hose with hose clamps rather than high pressure hose and fittings on the suction side of the pump.

Some valve bodies ports are marked, such as in, out. Any markings on yours? It would help to know which ports, in each valve, the end of each hose is connected to. Are the control valves pilot operated?

Some photos of the various components you mention might help. There are some 4-80-17 Operator's and Parts manuals for sale on eBay. If you don't have any manuals I suggest you invest in some now. OEM would be best if you can find them.
 
The 4-80-17 came after I left the service department but it sounds as though you have a two section pump, one section supplying the loader, the other the backhoe with both valves returning fluid to the reservoir through the larger hose. My guess is that the power steering is supplied from a separate belt driven pump and independent of the loader/backhoe fluid. If that is the case there should not be a problem connecting the the pressure hose that went to the backhoe valve to the return to reservoir/inlet side of the pump, as the fluid from that section could return with little restriction to the inlet side of the pump. Can you see if there are "in"/"P" or "T/'Ret." or out marks near the the valve ports? That with the other info. you have given will help determine how to to re,arrange the plumbing.
 
Thank you 90 Percent retired and jim----the power steering has its own pump and runs off a belt. Two lines coming off the left side of the front pump--one going to the loader controls and then another line from the loader controls is going back to the rear hoe controls. The other line from the left side of the pump goes straight back to the backhoe controls.
The large line on the right side of the pump goes back to the front bucket controls using a TEE and then continues back to the backhoe controls. I think that large line is the return line--just a guess.......Not sure if I hook the two supply lines together or block one of them off.
 
If it was me I would connect the supply/pressure line that goes from the pump to the backhoe valve to the tee that the large hose is connected to. This should let the fluid from the section of the pump that supplied the hoe return to the pump/reservoir with out any back pressure.
 
NEW INFO. Just back in the house after working on the tractor. I hooked the small supply line to the bigger return line and capped the other small line. Started tractor and moved it away from the hoe. When running the front bucket controls everything was very smooth and powerful and all functions were working. BUT stop working the front bucket controls and the tractor--pump seemed to load up a little---not as smooth as when moving the controls.
The capped line comes out of the---UNIT-- where the front bucket controls are located and it went back to the BACKHOE. IN TOTAL there are 3 lines that go back to the BACKHOE.
Thinking about installing a TEE where the supply line and return line are hooked together and dump that 3 rd. line into it. What do you guys think. Also thank you guys so very much for being interested in my project. len in michigan
 
That sounds ok to me. Just to double check I would suggest teeing a 3000 or 5000 Psi. pressure gauge into each line that comes out of the pump. The line to the loader valve should show less than 50 psi. when the valve is in neutral, "centered", and the other line that comes out of the pump should also have less than 50 psi. when the loader valve is in neutral and the pump operating. There should be little or no load on the engine when the vales are in neutral, Keep us posted.
