743b bobcat skidloader wont start

went to look at a 743b bobcat. missing the bucket ram but otherwise it looks pretty good. started up fine and all hydraulics worked, steering and all worked fine. no leaks or unusual noises. guy delivered it yesterday. started up and unloaded it fine. drove it up by the barn and parked it. went to start it this morning and it wouldn't start. no smoke at all. turned over fine. did notice the fuel gage was reading zero. put 5 gallons of diesel in it. opened the vent on the fuel filter. made sure fuel was coming out it. pumped the bulb couple times and it was hard so I don't think it has any air in it. I am completely new to bobcat. never have owned on so I am wondering if there's something I have to do besides turn the key. I did have the bar all the way down in my lap when I tried to start it. all help appreciated.

Seatbelt buckled? Some had interlocks on the set and belt as well, I think.

Kubota engine? If so they have glow plugs. Turn key to left and hold for 10 seconds on a sixty degree day should be enough, longer on a cold day. Once warmed up, should start with out glowing

Got to read slower, I skipped right over the turning over fine. With that I agree with MSM.

the glow plugs aren't wired up and it started fine earlier without them. probably 2/3 revolutions and it started FINE. . not getting anything from the discharge of the muffler. acts if its not getting fuel but I don't think theres any air in the filters. thanks

Call the previous owner and see what he had to do?

Maybe the old owner used starting fluid on it and if so and it has been done a lot over the year that can be only way they will start cold. Plus today was a bit on the cool side

See the electric stop/start solenoid on the pump is working,get a second person to turn the key on and off while you hold your finger tips on the solenoid,if it's working you will feel it jump,if it does not jump check there is power going to it.

squirt of either started it. next day it started without it. anyone know what the two indicating lights are for on the right side by the gauges.. all gauges work. thanks

I have a manual for the 751 and I tried to see if it told me what those lights where for. But I did not find that info. One it likely to be for the glow plugs and lights when you hold the switch in the glow plug position and the other is likely to be a charge idiot light

That solenoid makes a BIG snap when turned on,you will hear it no problem.Turn the key on,if you don't hear it snap push the end of the solenoid linkage with your finger.If it stays where you push it see if it starts then.Those things have a little bunch of wires,not one wire like most pumps with internal solenoids.It uses a couple of relays,one to put a big pile of current to the solenoid to pull it in,and another relay puts in a little bit of current to hold it there.What is VERY common on those engines it the little ball ,or heim joint end of the linkage gets a little rusty.It holds the rod too stiff and binds up so it can't be pivot as it tries to pull in.It is real simple and one of those stupid things that a lot of guys spend hours chasing.They might work for a week,then all of a sudden they just won't.
