engine swap

where is a place to fnd out what engines interchange on a dozer

I have found several and this or that wrong or different or the motor is less horse power, etc.

What I have is a 450e turbo

The John Deere 450E crawlers all used the 4276T (turbocharged) engine, I believe. You might have to talk with John Deere on what used the 4276T, and the differences in applications of the 4276T. It might be just changing your accessories onto another 4276T engine will get you where you need to be. I would think the 4276T base engine would be the same. They might show it as different just because of things like injection pump settings changing horsepower, water pump arrangement, crank pulley, etc., and using your components would be all that is needed to make a different engine work. Have you had your block checked by a shop to see if they can salvage it or looked at getting a short block/reman engine? Just my thoughts.

thats the engine I have in it right now

I have a fella that says he has a motor that will work in it but its 5 hp less that is turbo

I have looked at several that says they will fit and the starter is on the wrong side different pump or something and I dont know where to look for anything other than the one I have that will fit

The question is ,is there a book or reference that tells a fella that

Sorry, I don't know of any book like your asking about, hope someone posts where you can find one. JD may have something that tells what other machines used the same engine arrangement as your 450E. Some folks or engine shops may have info from swaps or rebuilds they have done. I know of JD farm tractors that had engine swap/upgrades to different series engines from the original. They often required adapter plates, mixing and matching accessories, and modifying some things to get the different series engines to fit and work.

Were the other engines you found, with the starter on the wrong side, different pump or something, 4276T engines? If you can find out what the engine came out of you could research the JD parts catalogs on line and see if the block, crank, head, timing cover part numbers match your engine's part numbers to build from. If those match you should be able to swap your accessories (bell housing, flywheel, pump, etc.) on to that base engine to make it match your current arrangement. Just as you would need to do if you got a block, short block, or long block from JD. To have everything match your engine (a direct bolt in), without you having to swap any accessories, you will likely need to find an engine from an identical 450E. JMHO
