555C - stubborn bucket teeth

Backhoe bucket teeth, vertically orientated, roll pin type, won't pound out. Need to change the worn ones out. Center of roll pin is packed with hard dirt, thinking time to heat with the torch, after removing dirt, see if the bond can be broken. Dirt is like concrete, might need a masonry bit to drill out LOL.

Any tricks to these ?

Clean the hole, get a drift (punch) a smidgen smaller than the hole, weld a handle to it,get a second person to hold it on the lock pin while you give it what for with a 14 lb hammer and it will knock them out with a couple of blows, protect yer eyes.

Yes, I tried this, need the right drift punch, like concrete, but should come out with some work. Eye protection is a must, always have safety glasses nearby ready to use, keep several pair on hand, that and hearing protection.

Burn the tooth behind the retaining pin until you can knock the tooth off. No reason to try to save the tooth unless you're swapping corners for maximum wear. By time you get the tooth off the heat may have helped loosen the pin. You may need to burn all the way through it, eventually. If you keep pounding on it and it keeps not moving, it'll turn into a rivet.

Nothing left to save on any of them, all need to be replaced. New machine to me, original bucket teeth. Oxygen Acetylene torch I am pretty good with, should be no trouble to burn off that way, heat should break the bond and or weaken enough.

I have a Werk-Brau bucket on my 150 Komatsu, equipped with Esco twist-locks. I absolutely hate them. They wear well, But they have no other redeeming features. They don't come off easy, sometimes not at all. At 70.00 each, I didn't mess with them. Using the biggest torch tip I had, I just blew the shanks off both corners and installed Esco 25-S shanks, and the caps came from Spain (MTGs, I think) for $11 apiece. Going to change the remaining 5 this summer.

I worked at a Ford dealer back when these pains in the butt came out, one of our handier shop guys made an attachment for our port-a-power to slip over the tooth and press the pins out, wish I had a picture of it
