Older Cat D6-Serial Number

We have an older Cat D6 dozer. We can only find this number on it for an identification number 44A1661 . We are trying to figure out what year it is so that we can get a manual and figure other requirements out like how much oil the motor would take to replace.

Hector will have to answer for certain but having 84 pages it sounds like the Operator instruction and maintenance manual. Most Shop Service manuals whould be in the 300 plus page range.

That's what we were figuring. Mostly wanting to know at this point how much oil the engine holds when changing the oil. We are figuring around 22 quarts.

It has been years since I changed one but I think it may be between 7 and 8 gallons. If I remember right; Fill to the full mark on the dipstick then start it and let it idle. Check the level with the engine idling. Some may have had marks on the dip stick for engine stopped as well as idling. Like I said it has been years since I did one.
