Trying to figure out what year this machine is. Only numbers I can find are 6U340 on both the rear end housing and the engine block. Also bought the machine with the big brass "throwout" yolk broke in two. Wondering where a guy would go abouts finding one of those. Thanks in advance.

I find that it is a 1947 year--the first year the 6U models were made
Try Florin tractor in California----a parts book for that serial # will be a big help to you

Iv got a manual ordered from Jensales now...was waiting to see what year it was 1st so I ordered the right book. Kinda surprised me that it was that old of a machine. I just bought this crawler yesterday and got it running after 2 years of setting. Bout 5 hrs of tinkering with the pony carb and then it didnt take long to fire. That's when I noticed that shifter fork for the clutch was sheared in half

when ordering Cat manuals always make sure they cover your serial #--Cat made some upgrades to machines in the middle of the production year

Too late now but Jensales manuals are hit and miss. I have a lot of them and the quality isn't that great in some. In the Cat manuals there is a lot of fine print, it may not come through. Good news is you cna get an original Cat manual for under $20 usually on Ebay.

Well I guess what's 20 bucks or so more lol. Cant ever really have enough information on any of that older machinery.

I have a stack of manuals for my D47U that's at least a foot high. You get into this game and people will give you stuff like that.
