Having alot of trouble removing the center arm because of this pin in picture. I have the lower bolt in the clevis removed and a
chisel / wedge drove in to open the clevis ..still the vertical pin wont come amd out . Parts diagram shows a large snap
ring..dont see anything on top but a small bolt that I took on top ..looks like a grease zert hole that maybe one runs a longer
screw in and it pulls it out..? the small bolt on top is about a 3/8 and the vertical pin is about 1 1/2 " .anyone every have the PLEASURE of working on this nite mare idea before and got one out ? thanks

There's supposed to be a large flat washer and 3/8 bolt threaded into the pin to keep it from dropping to the bottom of the bore.
Once you unclamp the steering arm from the pin it should slide up and out but it will take a little work if it's rusted in the arm or has a grove with a ridge worn in the pin.
Thread a 3/8 bolt into the pin with a flat washer on it, hook the flat washer with a couple of pry bars and work the pin up and out.
If you have the grill shell off use a slid hammer to pop the pin out.

What happened to that steering cylinder???

4400 is a Ford industrial tractor, you'll get more answers and help if you post this in the ford section.

Thanks for the info Destroked I ook your advice ..got the pin out with a slide hammer .Also I had to get the center arm pin
out as it was froze up good. then finally I got the cylinder out to repair it. SO yea here is why the cylinder looks like
that. At some previous time the cylinder rod end that is fastened to the cast web on the bolster ...well it broke the cast
hole out of the bolster . and someone re drilled a hole behind it further away about an inch...and was using it to attach
the rod end of cylinder. I am not sure if it will work right if its not in same exact place which is about 1 1/2 " longer .
and I have taken cylinder apart ..but not got into the spool part. was wondering is there is a rebuild kit that has a new
pool allready put together ..from parts book it looks like alot of small parts inside...Oh yea I forgot to say that thr
reason the cylinder looks like that is I think after cast broke it let cylinder go up against crank pulley and thats what
happened ..really dup deep into cylinder ..but it appears not to have hurt it ...my leak was from cylinder seal and wippers
..there shot..Im going to order a seal kit for it but not sure about the spool....not sure if I can repair them with all
the parts....hope they sell a kit with the spool and accuater parts allready put together..

Glad to hear you got it apart, also glad to hear the cylinder barrel isn't bent and unusable.

The valve isn't as bad as it looks in the photo
Lay everything out as you take it apart and make sure it goes back together the same way.
There's only a couple of o-rings that you replace, everything else is hard parts that are reused.

Google CFPN3301C for the repair kit.
NH price is $107 but I found them for $45-55

Never hear of that casting break out but strange things have happen.
Moving the location for the rod mount back will cause the steering to not turn as sharp in on direction.

Thanks Destroke..I checked out the kit for the cylinder. does that kit include the 2 cylinder caps o rings and also the piston
o-ring. and the spool parts ?.. also upon further review the cylinder is not going to be able to be used...any thoughts?..I
looked at it and can't fix it..used or new......took trans input shaft seal out and it was bad ...I took off the top of gear
box..looks like a 4 position H style. and the other shifter looks like its for hi /low. ..gears all look very good but low on
fluid probably dure to seal all broken up ..does the trans fluid only service the trans and the rear end seperate fluid? thanks
..

A cylinder for a 5000 is the same.
Also post a pic of the broken area in the casting.
Those cylinders haven't been available new for several years.
There's a reman unit on eBay for $595 but the spool valve looks different.
Are you sure your's is a 4400 and not a 4500?
There 3 rows of numbers on the flat area of the clutch housing behind the starter.
They contain the model code, build date and serial number.
Post them and I'll decode the tractor if you haven't already done that.

DeStroke..I sent other pics here but some of them I replied to myself by accident.. so look under my replys..for other pics. I
will try to post the broken part of bolster now. I Did some research and found the is 2 sizes of cylinders the 5 3/4 and 6 3/4
...They must have had different curve on the center arm or a different place for the end of rod to attach..I think mine is the
shorter of the two.

The one pics shows a large pin I put down the the hole that someone I think drilled it for a longer bolt so with a long 5/8 bolt
it will work and be in same place. .. I still need to find a tube to replace the damaged one..I will call dealer to see if they
still can get the shorter one ..also I see there is 2 different cylinder valve actuator flat bar lenghts too...Mine is ok not
bent and holes are tight. I will send you the pics of serial numbers again..and both the right side with 3 sets of numbers and
the Left side in same area with one set of numbers..

I think I may have looked it up on another post but here it is again

44021G
4400 series, gas engine, no pto, 4x4 manual reverser trans
5E26C
Built May 26 1965 on afternoon shift

The upper hole is cracked
It's going to be hard a salvage that bolster unless you know someone thats good at brazing or welding cast iron.
5000 bolster has a different part number but all components for the steering and axle mount are the same.
Don't know what's different about them.

Yours should have the short cylinder like one for a 5000
4500 bolster and steering arm are different, the cylinder pins to the front of the bolster and is longer.

Well I think I can repair that problem so unless I find a bolster for a 4400 or 5000 then I will repair it. hopefully find a
cylinder and seal and bore kit. I have a question..do you know what month/date was the model change overs for the detroit built ford tractors
in the sixties.?

The world tractor production started with the 65 model
They where built in Romeo, Mi, Basildon, England and Antwerp, Belgium.
Yours having a C at the beginning of the serial number was built in the USA.

Measure the cylinder length on yours, I may have a cylinder off of a 5000, it was leaking at the control valve but may just need a o-ring.

Not yet, I have a 45ft trailer I store parts in I think it's in there somewhere, but it's been a year or two since I seen it.
I know it's there just haven't had much time to look for it.

ok so that sounds like it. took crank in today...needs some work ...still really dont know what engine I have ..the crank
numbers is an old number replaced with a new one ...so i looked up the number on the crank....c5ne 6303p on the ford
newholland online site...and the diagram show that I think it was for a 5000 but they never made a 5000 with a 3 cylinder did
they? ...the guy at rebuild shop thouhg it was a 172 but I told him I think its a 192...I dont think I can measure the stroke
to check as I dropped it off at the machine shop today I really would like to find someone who can figure what motor by serial
number . hes going to grind and get bearings for it. as far as the barrel you have...how do you want to discuss it?...I have
an email [email protected]

The 172 engine was used on the older 4 cylinder tractors
The 175 diesel engine was used on the 3000 series
The 175 and 192 use the same crankshaft with a 4.200 stroke
175 block has a 4.200 bore.
192 block has a 4.400 bore
4400 tractors came with the 192 gas engine until mid 68 when the gas engine was upgraded to 201 ci.
All 4400 diesel models had the 201 diesel engine

I'll send you a email tomorrow.

I am not sure if you sent me something or not...something came but sure if it was you or not.....in the mean time I did find
another block stamped set of numbers at bottom on right side all the way up by the point of where the bolster bolts on..here is
pics.
