4500 Ford TBL removing water in hyd oil

I have a 4500 thats been setting in a shed for 6yrs, it had milky hyd oil before I parked it. I plan on running
it again soon, so wondering if the water may have settled to the bottom, if so I thought of trying to drain alittle
off using the bottom drain plug. I had been told water was heavier than hyd oil, not sure if this is true?

It is true; water is heavier than oil and will go to the bottom IF the water separated from the oil. If you do get water out the bottom of the reservoir that is good. However you will only be getting water from the reservoir, there will still be water through out all the entire rest of the hydraulic system. I expect the oil will be milky once it starts circulating and mixing again, if water was the cause. JMHO

I would drain all the oil before you start it up,then put in the minimum amount it takes to lift the equipment and cycle it through all the movements and then drain that out as well, when the oil goes milky its a right SOB to get rid of it and it will probably discolour the new oil as it's impossible to get all the contaminated oil out of the system short of stripping all the hoses, valves and cylinders which would not be viable, look and see where the water got in and fix it and you should be ok.

There is no really good drain point on 4500. Cylinders will have water in one end or other. Frame has plugs on sides witch will leave water in frame. Only thing is drain oil that will drain. Then refill, try to get hot enough to evaporate moisture.

I am of the understanding that true hydraulic oil has additives that allow it to absorb water and it will not separate. All you can do is keep changing it or maybe if it gets hot enough it will evaporate.
