Case 1000 with JD 403 engine replacement

So i have found a JD 403 engine to replace the one in my case 1000 dozer that has a cracked block. The new engine comes from an old army generator. The cracked block on my dozer is a 403 replacement block as well, although they only replaced the block and used the original JD 382 head on with it. Also the oil pan was the original as well.

I have read that a JD 403 will fit right into this dozer?

I can leave the new 403 engine and head together i'm guessing? don't need to swap heads with the original 382?

Also i was going to take the old block out of the dozer today (head and pan and balancer removed already), but it won't separate from the flywheel housing. Do i have to pull all that out with the block?

And if so i'm guessing i need to remove the cab/and or the radiator and radiator housing?

I'm just trying to make this go quickly instead of doing extra work. Appreciate any help. Thanks

Idaho,
Engine will separate from torque converter housing , BUT you have to remove the
bolts that hold the flex plates to the flywheel. They come out through the hand hole
in the flywheel housing , PUT a rag in below each time so as not to drop a bolt as
there is not enough room in the housing to clear the dropped bolt.
Converter has a nub that goes in the flywheel and sometimes tends to rust in place.
403 is a direct replacement for 382 , you will need to make a cover for the tach drive
hole.
If you have a 1000D there is a tube from the back of the head to the radiator ,you
may have to drill and tap for a 1/8 pipe fitting, it is a burp to to move bubbles out
of the head if you are working nose down steep hill.
Other thing is if you have a early 1000 ,the coupling to the flywheel will be an
inside/outside gear .
I have several 1000's , if you need coaching , send me an email with phone # and
I'll call you ,also have machine shop , so I have been in those deeply. I'll check
the mail about noon .

Is the 382 engine in the dozer similar to the 382 Continental used in the MH 55 and 555 series?
Ben

Ben ,
The block is similar ,but has no balancer ,oil sys is not full flow,
has no oil cooler, and uses Bosch fuel sys and not roosa master. Bosch
drives from timing gear housing and 1000 needs that hole to mount the
transmission pump , roosa master drives on side of block in the hole that
would be for distributor on gas version .
