Case 580K stuck in gear

91 Case 580k can not shift gears. button on lift arm & shift arm
does not release something. Posting for a friend with no pc.Fuses good. thanks

There were two types of transmission used in the K,Case and Carraro chalk and cheese,with either see there is enough oil in the transaxle,also see that the diff lock is disengaged and if it's a four wheel drive that it is in two wheel for the road,the buttons on the shift and the bucket lever is the clutch cutout,if that button sticks when you press it you should have no drive,if the switches are sticking they should replaced,when replacing those switches it is important to count how many turns it takes to undo it,when the new switch is connected turn it anticlock the same turns and then screw it in so the cable will not be twisted,if it's a Carraro transaxle it has it got an interlock mechanism under the shift lever,take the boot off and with a squirt can put some oil on the joints it may improve it,the proper way to shift the gears is use the foot throttle only,to shift up,foot off the throttle,push cutout button shift gear,release button and foot back on the throttle,see how that goes,if you are still having trouble I would need to know the transaxle you got,if the shift lever on the right console has a tee with a button on it's a Carraro,if the lever is coming up from the floor it's Case.
