The original subject was "Gehl 4500 Skid Steer Stalling OutHard Starting".

Still having trouble with my Gehl 4500. I installed an electric fuel pump to alleviate any suspected vapor lock issues, set the regulator to 4.5 PSI. The issue that I still get it that the engine will stumble for 2 seconds and die when a slight load is applied. It can happen during turning, lifting, dumping, but so far never when driving in a straight line. If you catch it stumbling fast enough, you can throttle down and save it from dying. Then slowly throttle up and she will be good for a while. It is a very difficult situation to be in when you need a machine to do it's job. I have good spark, engine runs very nice, no misfire, spark plugs all have a nice even burn on them. Ford 1.6L Industrial, Zenith carb. Not sure what to do, I am very frustrated. Could I have a bad or going bad vacuum advance?

I had the same thing happen to me on a skidloader that had an electric fuel pump same for motor. after checking several things I finally took the suction line off the fuel pump and blew real hard back through the suction line. problem solved but every so often I still had to do it. just never did drain the tank completely and flushed it out. your pressure is more than you need. I put a 2.5 psi on mine. to much pressure will effect the needle valve in your carb. I also installed my pump below the radiator so its not far from the fuel tank. check the filter on the suction line of your pump. mine plugged up once. good luck

Ok, so I think I may have narrowed this down. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could help. When I bought my 4500 it had an old hydraulic filter housing, very large and aluminum. It leaked poorly because the matting surfaces were scared by screwdrivers and chisels by who ever had this before. They also needed LOTS of RTV to keep it sealed up. So I replaced it with a Prince FA1300-00 Filter Head, Cast Aluminum, 25 psi Bypass Spring, 20 gpm. It is running the Hastings version of Princes' FA10 filter, 10Micron. Is the filter and housing too small? Is the filter too small? Are the PSI/GPM ratings wrong?
