oil level and fill on simms inj pump

I have a friend who bought this old loader/backhoe and have been trying to help him out. I finally got fuel up to the pump and bleed it to start, but I have been reading here about the oil inside the pump I have looked at his and find no place to add it at. There appears to be a breather but it don't look as though it goes into the body. The cover has SPE4A75S 647 on it. I thought about removing the cover and drilling and tapping it. There appears to be a metal line coming from the oil filter housing so I am not sure if it is supplying oil under pressure. I have also seen comments about a coldstart aid. Any help you can provide me would be great . Thanks in advance

If its got a metal tube coming from the oil filter then it is lubricated from the engine oil, look at where the stop cable is attached, the lever that the cable is attached is mounted on a shaft, there should be a button sticking out of the center of the shaft, usually has a small rubber boot over it,with the stop in the run position and the throttle on full pressing that button allows the rack in the pump to move further than normal and cause more fuel to be injected which results in easier starting,it is known as an excess fuel device, must be on a Brit engine which one?.

My next trip to his house I will have to look closely at the shut off as I don't remember a small rubber boot but that don't mean much. I will try to have more engine info on my next post as it is still new to me Thanks so much

That pump number sounds like it's on a Ford Major with the vacuum governor. They never had an oil fill location as they are supposed to be lubed by the leak off fuel that seeps past the plungers, and any excess goes out the drip tube. I drill and tap the side cover for a pipe plug and add oil there. Too much lube is better than no or low lube.

If it's so old that it has a pneumatic throttle I doubt if it is lubricated from the engine as that came much later,if it has it's own oil the level plug is on the side of the governor housing and the filler is on top,I'm in the UK and those pumps were very common,I can't recall ever having to drill any to put the oil in,how would the pump be serviced, the oil was supposed to be changed every time the engine oil was changed,if you have an oil line from the oil filter to the pump it's lubricated with engine oil, there should be another line with an open end to drain any fuel before it gets into the cam box, what is this engine and what is it fitted in.

the backhoe is supposed to be 1964 vintage according to the owner John. It has some badges on the hoos that claim to be a Super Major. The pump has a large chamber on the timing cover end of the engine by the timing coupling. There are 2 metal lines that attach to the air intake above and below a butterfly plate on the intake manifold. It is a four cylinder with a cable operated fuel shutoff on the opposite end of the pump. I am going to try and attach some photos tomorrow after I sort thru them. Thanks so far for your insight so far AJ and Dieseltech

Could be an old JCB as their first hoes were built on a Fordson Major, now that you have explained the pump and it is the pneumatic throttle type it is too early to have engine oil lubrication, what ever that pipe from the oil filter to the pump is for it was not standard, are you sure it is connected both ends as I can only recall one steel pipe which came from the pump with an open end as an overflow, that type pump was not close coupled to the engine ie it had a coupling in the open, the pumps that were oil fed from the engine oil were close coupled and the oil returned through the bearing on the drive shaft end.try and post a picture of the machine, back in the old days nearly everything had that Ford engine, good engine it was too, look and see if it's got a decompression lever on the front of the rocker cover.

I have a 3 cylinder Simms pump and a set of injectors. They were on the shelf of a Ford tractor mechanic. It is a modelP4665. A piece of paper in the box said 3000.so I'm thinking it was from a 3000 Ford.I would like to verify that it fits the model 3000 before I call the core guy.

(quoted from post at 11:22:24 10/11/18) Here are some photos off the injection pump. It appears that the photos didn't upload so I will have to ask a friend of mine to give me a hand doing so but here is the info I was able to gather minus the photosstamped on a raised surface of the engine S684553 on the top of the injection pump by thr top of the 8 bolt cover 77995, and on the cover SPE4A75S 647. I hope to get the photos posted tomorrow . Thanks so much for your help and your patience
