JD350 reverser hard to use

I have an original Jd350 dozer. It has the reverser on the dash and is very hard to push. It sometimes loosens a little but will get so hard it takes two hands to move it. Is this likely the cable or are there other things that could cause it? How do I get to the reverser to disconnect the cable to confirm if it is a cable issue.

Sorry for the duplicate post but it was suggested in the JD forum that I post over here.

Did you chase the cable out and try moving the lever with the cable unhooked from the reverser end yet? If so what were the results?

I have not. I am unsure where it even goes and would like to avoid pulling to many parts looking for the reverser.

Do you have a dipstick in the floorboard near the brake pedal? That should be in the reverser case. Remove that front floor board and I believe you will find the other end of the reverser cable on one side or the other of the housing you see under that floor board.

Do you have any of the manuals? I am guessing you don't and unfortunately few are available for free viewing on line. They are well worth having. You can access the parts catalog (PC 921) for your machine on line at HTTPS://PARTSADVISOR.DEERE.COM/ .

Based on you saying you have a original (straight) 350: The service manual is John Deere # SM 2063 and the operator's manual is # OMT 32423 according to the John Deere Technical info site HTTP://WWW.JOHNDEERETECHINFO.COM. That is one source where you can purchase manuals (printed, discs, or downloads). Get JD OEM manuals (new or used) or quality reprints of the OEM manuals some aftermarket vendors offer.

Thanks for all the info. I do have some manuals but I need to find them. They are a couple hundred miles away from me right now. I Don't recall a dipstick on the floor but it sounds like I need to figure that out and should probably change the oil and filter in the reverser while I am at it. I inherited this machine and it has always been garage kept but has seen little action in the last 30 years. I changed engine oil and fuel filters but haven't done much else so far. Your info will help. thanks
